Our nighthawks pulled off some lifetime PRs new school records and standout performances. You can view some meet photos from Jaguar in this album by Dennis McClanahan. Find the full meet results here for Jaguar and here for Mt Sac. Keep reading for some highlights.

Frosh Soph Invitational

We host the Frosh Soph Invitational each year which is a huge fundraiser for our program. Every Del Norte Track Athlete is required to help out during the meet per our team rules agreement. We also need the help and support of our parents to run things like the snack bar, gate check in, etc. Parents can sign up here for volunteer spots. There are various assignments and time slots to fill, grab what works best with your schedule before spots fill up. We so appreciate your support! We will be rolling out assignments for our student athletes in the next few days. They will be split into morning and evening shifts. Upperclassmen will have priority for morning shifts.

Athletes of the Meet - Jaguar Invite

We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our last meet.

High Jump -

  • Chris Guzman (11) set a new personal best in high jump. Only his 2nd time competing in this event, we are excited to see him continue to improve!

Sprints -

  • Savanna Jones (12) set new personal records in both the 100 and 200 and ran the lead off leg in our 4x4 to help secure a 3rd place team finish!

Jumps -

  • Ben Sheffres (11) showed a great deal of focus and determination at this meet. All four of his jumps were better than his previous best, and he was consistently on the board. He medaled with a jump of 19'3".

  • Aditi Bandaru (10) has shown a steady upward trend in long jump since the beginning of the season. She PR'ed by over half a foot on Saturday, finishing first in her flight with a jump of 14'1.5

Hurdles -

  • Braxton Jones (10) seta huge PR in the 300 hurdles by over a second with a time of 48.40. He also had a great effort in the 110 hurdles, with a few minor adjustments I expect huge progress in that event too!

Distance -

  • Peter Akinpelu (11) set yet another great PR of 2:06 in the 800. He continues to make incredible progress in this event, due to his hard work and determination!

  • Lily Engle ran a new, HUGE PR of 6:08 in the mile, shaving over 4 seconds off her previous best effort in this event. Very proud of this young athlete!

Throws

  • Shruthi Balaji (10) put together her best meet of the season (so far) PR’ing in both shot put and discus!

Mt Sac Invite Recap

A very limited team made the trip up to Mt Sac Invitational, this is a huge meet hosting elite high school students as well as collegiate and professional athletes. Some highlights include our boys 4x800 team placed 3rd with a time of 8:03.05 which is 2nd all time in Del Norte History. Our girls DMR won the invite DMR (distance medley relay) running 11:44.87 which is a new school record and currently the #2 time in the nation!

Congratulations to all of those athletes on a great meet. We would like to take the time to recognize those athletes whose performance landed them onto our top 10 all-time lists.

  • Kaylee Rebugio (9) - Girls 200: 4th All-Time with a time of 26.27

  • Alex Kumar (11) - Boys Triple Jump: 4th All-Time with a jump of 40’8.25”

Each of these athletes have made a great impact on our program, making themselves known as some of the best in their event since our school opened in 2009. We look forward to witnessing their continued success as the season goes on.

Our Next Meet

Our next meet is a dual meet with Poway High School, coming up this Wednesday April 19th with a 4:00 pm start time, taking place at our home track. As it is another league meet we are always trying to put together a winning meet. Coaches will be strategically placing athletes in select events to help our team secure a win. We will have those official entries by Tuesday (tomorrow) and athletes can expect to find out what they are competing in then. As this is a home meet our snack bar will be open! Bring cash for snacks and drinks and say hello to our lovely parent volunteers in the snack bar!

Keep up with the latest news by following us on instagram! We post regular updates, meet photos and videos highlight an array of athletes. Head over to our page now to catch up!

Donate your used spikes to a Nighthawk in need!

  • If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
