A Nighthawk Sweep Poway Dual Meet

Hello nighthawk families and fans,

Yesterday we had our league dual meet against Poway High School. We had some great performances across the board with a full program sweep (both JV and Varsity for boys and girls teams). Our boys and girls varsity teams took home the win with final scores of 85-51 and 82-53 respectively. Find the full meet results here, 4x4 splits here an album of photos from the day by Nick Echsner here and keep reading for some highlights.

Frosh Soph Invitational - This Saturday 4/22

We host the Frosh Soph Invitational each year which is a huge fundraiser for our program. Every Del Norte Track Athlete is required to help out during the meet per our team rules agreement. Athletes can find their shift assignments here upperclassmen were given priority for morning shifts. We also need the help and support of our parents to run things like the snack bar, gate check in, etc. Parents can sign up here for volunteer spots. If you have adult children, adult family members like aunts and uncles or friends who would like to come help we appreciate all of the help we can get. There are various assignments and time slots to fill, grab what works best with your schedule before spots fill up. We so appreciate your support!

Athletes of the Meet

We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our last meet.

High Jump -

  • Thomas Park (10) set a new PR in high jump and finished first in the JV boys flight.

Sprints -

  • Ashlyn Blackburn (9) won the JV high jump, 400 and 200 throwing down massive PRs in her sprint races.

  • Aden Kaimer (10) has PRd consistently throughout his races. He was able to PR again with a 53.79 and ran an electric 4x4 leg for a 52.5 split.

Hurdles -

  • Alex Guerra (10) fresh off a PR in the 110 Hurdles from last week, he bettered his time by almost a whole second, breaking 20 and winning the race. He then came back and set a new PR in the 300 hurdles shaving a second off his previous best. Incredibly proud of this hurdler, he has shaved 7 and a half seconds off of his PR from last year.

  • Ava Llamas (12) Put together an amazing race, broke 50 and set a new PR in the 300 hurdles. This time places her 2nd in Palomar League. Also made a stellar debut in her first ever 100 running the 5th fastest time on the team this year! Excite to see this newfound speed and can’t wait to watch you continue to improve!

Distance -

  • Brianna Busse (11) has her break out race this week with a new lifetime best of 5:19 in the 1600. She then doubled back and helped score valuable points in the 800.

  • Quinn Davis (10) continued to impress yesterday with another strong outing. He was able to come away with a double PR in the 800 and 3200.

Congratulations to all of those athletes on a great meet. We would like to take the time to recognize those athletes whose performance landed them onto our top 10 all-time lists. Because they did not have a wind-gauge at this meet, our sprinters and jumpers performances cannot be counted towards school records and all-time performances. We know they have it in them and will be able to even surpass these marks in future competitions!

  • Jake Warren (11) - Boys 100: 3rd All-Time with a time of 11.25

  • Ella Echsner (11) - Girls 300 Hurdles: 4th All-Time with a time of 46.82

  • Danny Tragarz (12) - Boys 400: 5th All-Time with a time of 50.50

  • Danny Tragarz (12) - Boys Long Jump: (tied) 5th All-Time with a jump of 20’10”

  • Ty Olsen (10) - Boys 100: 8th All-Time with a time of 11.39

Each of these athletes have made a great impact on our program, making themselves known as some of the best in their event since our school opened in 2009. We look forward to witnessing their continued success as the season goes on.

Donate your used spikes to a Nighthawk in need!

  • If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
