Track is Back! 2025

Hello nighthawk families and fans,

Welcome to the 2025 Track and Field Season. We are SO excited to be back and welcome so many new faces to our team.

Our mandatory parent meeting will take place Thursday 2/27 in the Del Norte Staff Lounge

  • Returning Parents - 6-6:30PM

  • New Parents - 7-8PM

The first few weeks of practice have just wrapped up and we had a very busy week.

We have held two time trials on the sprints/jumps/hurdles side (150 meters and 300 meters) as well as a broad jump test to get an idea of where all athletes (new and returning) stand. This will help us identify where each athlete will be most successful on our team and will continue making adjustments.

On Saturday morning we handed out uniforms to get ready for our first meet!

If you are still competing in a winter sport at Del Norte, do not worry. You are welcome to come out to track once that CIF sport has completed, just find Coach Jacobs at the beginning of your first day to get cleared!

This weekend we have our first meet! Keep reading to find out more info…

Our First Meet:

  • Our first meet is this Saturday March 1st at Canyon Crest Academy against CCA and Otay Ranch.

  • The meet will begin at 9am and run until about 1pm

  • Please arrive an hour and a half-two hours before your first event so you can check in with your coaches and have ample time to warm up

  • This is a pre season meet that does not count towards our league standing, just an opportunity for new athletes to get a mark, get a feel for their events and for returners to shake off some rust.

  • There will not be a bus to this meet, athletes will need to arrange transportation to and from the meet.

  • Entries as well as a formal time schedule will be shared at practice and then posted on the website later this week.

  • If your athlete does not yet have spikes/competition shoes at this meet it is okay.

House Keeping

Practice is mandatory every day Monday-Friday.

  • Our mandatory parent meeting will take place Thursday 2/27 in the Staff Lounge

    • Returning Parents - 6-6:30PM

    • New Parents - 7-8PM

  • Our team store is open now - Monday March 3rd. Grab spirit wear and extra gear. Underclassmen we recommend you buy warm up jacket/sweats to wear at meets throughout your time as a nighthawk!

  • Sprinters + Hurdlers find information on what spikes to get here

  • Our team rules agreement needs to be printed, signed (by student and guardian) and returned to Coach Jacobs at practice on Monday. Without this athletes will not compete in our first meet.

  • Athletes who already have spikes are expected to bring them to practice EVERYDAY!

  • Continue bringing water bottles, layers and RUNNING SHOES to practice. Those running in converse, Air Forces, etc. will end up with injuries as these are not designed for running.

Donate your used spikes to a Nighthawk in need!

  • If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
