Rewriting the All-Time Lists!

Hello nighthawk families and fans,

We had a fantastic week of meets last week! On Thursday we had our first home meet of the season against Mira Mesa High School. It was a great preview of what our Nighthawks have in store for the rest of the season. Lots of first time races and a ton of PRs! Huge thank you to all of the parent volunteers that helped out! There are slots available to help out at this week’s home meet here. Find the full meet results here, 4x4 splits here, an album of photos from the day by Nick Echsner here. Then on Saturday we took a limited team to Rancho Bernardo High School for the Don Jones Bronco Invitational. Find the meet results here and albums by Naja Fonseca and Nick Echsner here and here. Keep reading for some highlights.

Shout out to Pole Vault!!!

After the Bronco Invite on Saturday, for the first time ever our girl’s vault team has a collective PR of 10 feet or higher. This is a huge accomplishment and shows the hard work and talent we have in our pole vault crew! Props to the whole group led by Coach Tim Ngo!

Athletes of the Meet - Mira Mesa Dual + Bronco Invite

We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our Mira Mesa Dual meet.

Pole Vault -

  • Courtland Bradshaw (9) in his first official high school meet, shattered the previous freshmen pole vault record by 1'6” with a clearance of 12"‘6. Also landing him 10th on the All-Time list!

Sprints -

  • Oliver Heintz (12) his incredible performance landed him 6th in the 100 all time and 9th in the 200 all time. He has the fastest 200 time for our team this season.

  • Ella Joo (10) in her first ever track meet, ran the 2nd fastest 200 of the day. Following that performance she ran an incredible 400 split with a time of 61 seconds at the Bronco Invitational on Saturday.

  • Gannon Kaminetz (12) first meet back from an injury riddled season last year, and threw down massive PRs in the 100 and 200.

Hurdles -

  • Alex Guerra (10) fresh off of a PR in the 300 hurdles last week Alex came back and set an even bigger PR shaving another 2 and a half seconds off of his previous best. He also set a new PR in the 110 hurdles with almost a full second improvement.

  • Bella Czyszczon (9) in her debut hurdles races Bella came out fighting hard for the overall win. Great start to the season for this young hurdler.

Distance -

  • Sean Chang (11) had himself a day with a double PR in both the 800 and 3200. He’s continued to show great improvement and we look forward to see where it takes him in the latter half of the season.

  • Eliza Hong (9) made her 3200 season debut in exciting fashion. Her 11:01 puts her 3rd all time in Del Norte history and the second fastest freshman in California. A very strong start for such a young athlete.

  • Quinn Davis (11) improved on his lifetime best in the 3200 on Saturday with another strong outing. His continuous progression will help boost his confidence as we get deeper into the season.

Lilah Enyedi (10) had a very impressive double this past Saturday. She made her 3200 season debut where she ran a strong time and placed 4th. Then came back and ran a great 800 leg to help her DMR place 2nd overall.

Throws -

  • Amelia Neer (11) PR’ed in both in her first meet of the year. 87’ in disc and 2’ in shot, that’s a 10’ and 2’ PR, those are both huge!

Congratulations to all of those athletes on a great meet. We would like to take the time to recognize those athletes whose performance landed them onto our top 10 all-time lists. We had SO many incredible marks over last week’s meet which is incredibly exciting this early in the season!

  • Zoe Gross (10) - Girls 100: School Record with a time of 12.53

  • Chloe Tseng (12) - Girls Pole Vault: Tied for 4th All-Time with a vault of 11’7”

Each of these athletes have made a great impact on our program, making themselves known as some of the best in their event since our school opened in 2009. We look forward to witnessing their continued success as the season goes on.

  • If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
