Track is Back!

Hello nighthawk families and fans,

Welcome to the 2024 Track and Field Season. We are SO excited to be back and welcome so many new faces to our team.

The first week of practice has just wrapped up and we had a very busy week.

Monday the student athletes braved the rain, met the coaches and learned our team warm up. Tuesday we got right to work with the prospective sprinters and hurdlers running a 150 meter time trial. Wednesday we focused on recovery, spending more time getting familiar with our warm up drills, plyometrics and hurdle mobility. Then on Thursday we were back to work with an intense 300 meter time trial. We finished out the week with another lighter recovery day after a long and hard week (especially for our new comers who aren’t yet accustomed to our workload!)

We are working on finding out which athletes will be best in which events and will continue making those adjustments.

Next Week

  • Practice is mandatory every day Monday-Friday.

  • Our mandatory parent meeting will take place Thursday February 15th with a 6pm start time at Del Norte High School.

  • Sprinters + Hurdlers find information on what spikes to get here

  • Our team rules agreement needs to be printed, signed (by student and guardian) and returned to Coach Jacobs at practice on Monday. Without this athletes will not compete in our first meet.

  • Next week we will have opportunities for athletes to try hurdles + jumps.

  • Athletes who already have spikes are expected to bring them to practice EVERYDAY

  • Continue bringing water bottles, layers and RUNNING SHOES to practice. Those running in converse, Air Forces, etc. will end up with injuries as these are not designed for running.

House Keeping

Donate your used spikes to a Nighthawk in need!

  • If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
