Nighthawks Make History at State Meet

Hello nighthawk families and fans,

Last weekend (May 26th & 27th 2023) a small group of Nighthawks made the trip up north to Fresno for the 103rd Annual California State Meet. This is one of the most competitive high school meets in the nation and our athletes represented our team incredibly well! Find the full meet results here and keep reading for a full recap.

Meet Recap

Our first nighthawk to compete at state was Paige Echsner in pole vault prelims on Friday. Paige cleared each bar on her first attempt, placing her in first leading into the finals on Saturday where she finished 6th overall! Hannah Riggins competed in the girls 1600, easily qualifying for finals where she was able to pull off a 3rd place finish and a huge PR bettering her own school record with a time of 4:41. this is also good for the San Diego Section Record in that event. Danny Tragarz was next to compete for the Nighthawks in the 300 hurdles. He went out hard to clinch a spot in the finals and finished in a new school record of 38.28, the previous record stood for 9 years. Danny came back the next evening for finals and placed 6th, marking him as the first boy to medal at the state meet in our schools history! Friday evening Anna Prasouvo, Ella Echsner, Bianca Calafato, & Paige Echsner ran in an intense 4x400 relay. The girls ran their fastest time of the season, narrowly missing the qualifying time for finals in a very stacked field. The final event for our nighthawks Saturday evening would be the 4x800. Our boys team Stanley Yan, Kielan Rigg, Tristan Harpster and Peter Akinpelu would represent the Nighthawks in each of their first appearances at the State Meet. They competed hard amongst a stacked field in this historic, inaugural event. Finally, our girls 4x800, consisting of Emily Russo, Ella Echsner, Hannah Riggins and Paige Echsner would compete and win the first ever showing of this event. Setting a meet record, and the 4th fastest time in the nation this season. This is the first time any nighthawks in our program, history has finished first a the state meet. We are very proud of all of the athletes who represented our program at the 2023 State Meet and look forward to their continued success in the seasons to come!

House Keeping

  • Reminder, any athletes who are not moving on must return their uniform at practice. Athletes who do not turn in their uniforms and sweatpants will be subject to a fine.

Donate your used spikes to a Nighthawk in need!

  • If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
