MC Field + Distance Carnival

Hello nighthawk families and fans,

On Saturday we headed down the road to Mt Carmel for the Field + Distance Carnival. As the name suggests, this meet is only for Field Events and Distance Runners. Find the full meet results here on athletic.net, find photos by Nick Echsner here and keep reading for more highlights. If you are new to athletic.net and confused on how it works, scroll down on this past newsletter where we give a bit of a walkthrough of the site.

Athletes of the Meet

After each meet, we want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances.

Long Jump -

  • Abbi Lorett (12) set a new PR with a jump of 15’4”

Distance -

  • Marcelino Lapastora (9) in his 1600 debut broke the 5:00 barrier with a time of 4:56.23. He has a very tactical approach to his running style which will only benefit him even more as we get more races under his belt.

  • Samhita Lagisetti (10) really showed off how winter season preparation can payoff. She had a great double in the 4x800 and 3200 on Saturday. Earning herself a 1:30 PR in the 3200 and moving her to 15th all time in Del Norte history.

Throws -

  • Miller Utech (11) finished first in her flight with a huge 80’2” throw. 10 inches further than her previous best.

Congratulations to all of those athletes on a great meet.

This Week

Our next meet is the Mira Mesa Dual meet taking place at Del Norte, more info here. Athletes will find out what events they are competing in on practice at Wednesday. Following that, this Saturday we have the Don Jones Bronco Invite at Rancho Bernardo High School. We should have final entries/heat sheets on Wednesday for that meet as well.

We need parent volunteers at all of our home meets starting this Thursday.  Please sign up for a volunteer time slot HERE

Athletes are required to stay for the entirety of our dual meets, home and away. It is important they are there to support their teammates and help clean up for home meets.

  • If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
