Double Meet Feature
Hello nighthawk families and fans,
Over the weekend our Nighthawks competed across two invitationals! Field events athletes and distance runners went over to Mt Carmel for the Field & Distance Carnival and a few select sprinters/hurdlers headed to La Jolla High for our first time at Viking Sunset Relays! Find results for Field & Distance here there were also a few photographers who have posted albums from the meet. Find Phil Grooms’ Photo Album here and Dennis McClanahan’s Photo Album here and Viking Sunset Relays here. For many Nightahwks this was their first experience at an invitational and we brought home plenty of medals! Next week we have a dual meet at Mira Mesa and The Bronco Invite on Saturday. More info to follow…
Athletes of the Meet -
We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our Mira Mesa Dual meet.
Jumps -
Hayden Hughes, (10) kicked off the meet with a Long Jump of 18’4.5” on his first attempt—soaring past his previous best from last season by half a foot!
Distance -
Baylee Mrozek (11) made her distance debut this weekend where she ran an impressive 5:40 mile. We’re very excited to see all that offseason work she put in start to payoff.
Adrian Blatt (10) had a great day in the 3200 meter where he PRd by over 20 seconds running 10:52. He made significance progress in cross country and now he’s doing the same in his second track season.
Our Next Meets
This week we have two meets. An away dual meet against Mira Mesa (more information here) Unfortunately Mira Mesa has put a limit on how many athletes we an bring to the meet so there is a chance your athlete will not compete this Thursday. All athletes will know if they are competing by the end of practice on Wednesday. This Saturday we have the Bronco Invite at Rancho Bernardo High School (more information here). Weekend invitationals are more competitive/higher level meets for our Varsity level athletes. We enter athletes and they must qualify/be accepted into the meet by the meet director. For this reason we bring a much more limited number of athletes to these meets.
House Keeping
I am asking for a $250 parent donation to help offset our team costs. As always Athlete's are not required to "pay to play", however, this $250 donation would help cover essential program costs. If you are able to donate you can do so in a variety of ways.
Via Venmo using @DNHSATHLETICFOUNDATION - Please put "Track & Field" and your athletes name in the comments
Via Sports Engine HERE
Via Check - Please make the check payable to the Del Norte Athletic Foundation and put track and field and your athletes name in the memo. Checks must be given to my parent liaison Jim Echsner.

Donate your used spikes to a Nighthawk in need!
If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
