Field & Distance Carnival Recap

Hello nighthawk families and fans,

Reminder, our team store is only open until this Thursday March 8th. Shop now to get some Nighthawk gear for athletes and fans!

A limited team of Nighthawks headed just down the street to Mt Carmel High School for our first invite of the year: Mt Carmel Field & Distance Carnival. We had some great performances across the board and are excited to share some highlights with you. Find some meet day photos in the albums linked here and here.

Looking ahead we have a home dual meet this Thursday against Sage Creek and we need parent volunteers to help run our snack bar. Email NighthawksTrack@gmail.com if you are available to help! Parents are always able to pop out of the snack bar to watch their athletes compete.

Athletes of the Meet

We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our last meet. This was a Field and Distance Carnival so there were no sprinters or hurdlers competing this weekend.

Congratulations to all of those individuals on a great first invite meet. So many of our athletes are off to a great start this season, we are glad to be able to highlight just a few of them!

Our Next Meet

Our next meet will be our Dual Meet against Sage Creek High school happening Thursday March 9th. This will be a home meet, at Del Norte. Athletes competing will be realeased from their classes at 2:15 pm and should head straight to the track, the locker rooms will be open for them to change into their uniforms. Find all the info about that meet here. Again, we are looking for a handful of parent volunteers to help run our snack bar. Email NighthawksTrack@gmail.com if you are available to help! Parents are always able to pop out of the snack bar to watch their athletes compete.

House Keeping

  • Reminder that we practice from 4:10pm-6:10pm Monday-Friday and practice is mandatory.

  • Please remind your athlete to dress for the weather, it has been very cold lately with tempuratures dropping even more as the sun sets. We have requested that all athletes come in long pants and a jacket to keep them and their muscles warm to avoid injury at practice. If an athlete is not properly dressed for practice, they will be sent home. Their safety is always our top priority.

  • If your athlete got a new pair of spikes this season, and has an old pair they are no longer using, we are accepting donations of used spikes to pass on to a nighthawk in need! Have them bring their used spikes to practice and give them to one of our coaches.

Meet our Coaches

We are lucky to have a great team of coaches leading our student athletes and would love to introduce them to you. They have a variety of backgrounds and experience to share with your nighthawks. Follow us on instagram to keep up to date with our team and to meet more of our coaching staff!

Coach Mark Quiroz

Coach Mark came on as assistant coach for Del Norte’s Cross Country/Track & Field 2021/2022 season. Mark, a Del Norte Alumni himself, competed in the distance events during his time as a Nighthawk. He was a member of the school’s first XC/Track team in 2010/2011 and would later help the boys team earn back-to-back CIF Championships titles in 2013 and 2014. Post graduation, he went on to attend San Diego State University where he pursued a bachelors degree in Finance. After a lengthy hiatus from running competitively, he found a new passion in coaching. Coaching has given him the ability to tap back into his competitive nature while also allowing him to help his athletes grow and achieve their goals.
