Racing in the Rain

Hello nighthawk families and fans,

We all made it through an extremely rainy event. Despite the weather and unfortunately having to cancel our field events, we made the most of the meet! Huge shout out to our parent volunteers who helped out in the snack bar. The full results of the meet are posted here and the 4x400 relay splits here. Keep reading to find out about our athletes of the meet, nominated by their coaches.

Athletes of the Meet

We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our last meet. Our field event athletes weren’t able to compete due to the weather, but we appreciate those who stayed to help out!

Sprints -

  • Zoe Gross (9) just a freshmen and she won the 100m, as well as helping her team win in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay. She had the fastest split in the 4x400 among her team as well.

  • Ryan Remeggio (10) in his first 100 of the season Ryan set a new PR and his first time running sub 12 seconds, despite the rainy conditions!

Hurdles -

  • Yvonne Ho (9) in her 2nd meet ever, she took the rainy conditions in stride, never complaining. She was in both hurdles and the 4x400 relay and competed hard from start to finish every time she stepped onto the track.

  • Danny Tragarz (12) in his season opener, Danny set the tone with an overall win in both the 300 hurdles and the 100. He PRd in the 100 by half a second.

Distance -

  • Addison Spurgiesz (9) Addy had a very strong showing in her first ever mile running 6:13. While many made excuses about the weather, Addy showed up to compete and do her best.

  • Kielan Rigg (10) Kielan demonstrated a race maturity usually found in veteran 800 runners in his very first outing. He’ll only get better as the season progresses.

Congratulations to all of those athletes on a great meet. So many of our athletes are off to a great start this season, we are glad to be able to highlight just a few of them!

Our Next Meet

Our next meet will be the Mt Carmel Field & Distance Carnival happening Saturday March 4th. As the name suggests this will only be for field athletes and distance runners. Find all the info about that meet here.

All about Athletic.net

Athletic.net is a wonderful resource we have access to and offers a wealth of information. Attached below is a brief video demonstrating some of the things you can find searching through athletic.net. We have a team home page where you can find our meet schedule, athlete entries and meet results. You can also search athletes by name in the search bar, this allows you to see their personal records, as well as their marks for every meet they have competed in throughout their high school career. There are rankings lists for our league, city, section, state and even country where you can see how athletes stand among their peers. It is a really helpful resource and relatively simple to use. You can find our team homepage here. Look around and get familiar with the site to learn more about what is going on in the track & field world.

House Keeping

  • Reminder that we practice from 4:10pm-6:10pm Monday-Friday and practice is mandatory.

  • Please remind your athlete to dress for the weather, it has been very cold lately with tempuratures dropping even more as the sun sets. We have requested that all athletes come in long pants and a jacket to keep them and their muscles warm to avoid injury at practice. If an athlete is not properly dressed for practice, they will be sent home. Their safety is always our top priority.

  • If your athlete got a new pair of spikes this season, and has an old pair they are no longer using, we are accepting donations of used spikes to pass on to a nighthawk in need! Have them bring their used spikes to practice and give them to one of our coaches.

Meet our Coaches

We are lucky to have a great team of coaches leading our student athletes and would love to introduce them to you. They have a variety of backgrounds and experience to share with your nighthawks. Follow us on instagram to keep up to date with our team and to meet more of our coaching staff!
