MC Invite

Hello nighthawk families and fans,

Saturday we took a limited team to the MC/Aciscs Invitational, Mt Carmel High School. This is a very competitive meet with athletes coming from multiple cities and states and our Nighthawks held their own. We had stand out performances across the board including more meet and school records. You can view some meet photos in this album, this album and this album. Find the full meet results here and keep reading for some highlights.

Athletes of the Meet

We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our last meet.

Distance -

  • Cameron Yarbrough (9) showcased his talent as a young runner on Saturday. where he placed 3rd in an elite field and broke our 1600 meter school record with a time of 4:17.46

Hurdles-

  • Kloe Taylor (12) as an alternate, was able to get in to the 100 hurdles from a scratch and made the most of it. Kloe ran a great race with a strong 3-step. When she got off her step, she recollected and got back on. She earned herself a new PR and is on her way to even faster times!

  • Danny Tragarz (12) after a fast and chaotic heat in the 110s, he came back in the invite heat of 300 hurdles. Danny got out hard from the start and contested the current state leader in the event. He pushed all the way to a photo finish and walked away with a new PR of 38.92, less than half a second away from our current school record. He came back in the 4x4 to run a great leg for his team.

Congratulations to all of those athletes on a great meet. We would like to take the time to recognize those athletes whose performance landed them onto our top 10 all-time lists.

Each of these athletes have made a great impact on our program, making themselves known as some of the best in their event since our school opened in 2009. We look forward to witnessing their continued success as the season goes on.

We also had a new meet record set by our Nighthawks on Saturday!

  • Hannah Riggins (12) - set a meet record in the girls 1600 meters with a time of 4:49.50

    • she broke a record that stood for 12 years and it wasn't even a PR for her.

This is a huge accomplishment and makes our program incredibly proud.

Our Next Meet

Our next meet is a dual meet with Rancho Bernardo, coming up this Thursday March 30th with a 4:00 pm start time, taking place at our home track. This is our 2nd league official meet and our team score will count towards our league title, so it is very important we are competing at our best. Coaches will be strategically placing athletes in select events to help our team secure a win. We will have those entries decided by Wednesday and athletes can expect to find out what they are racing in then. As this is a home meet our snack bar will be open! Bring cash for snacks and drinks and say hello to our lovely parent volunteers in the snack bar!

New Meet Added to Our Schedule!

An update to share with you all, we have added another meet to our schedule. This weekend, April 1st, was previously a bye week. We have added the UC Track Classic to our schedule. As all invites go, this will only be a select group of athletes attending, but even more so for this meet. We will only be taking sprinters, hurdlers and a couple of field events to give rest to our distance runners. We should have those entries solidified and be able to share specific details to those athletes later this week.

Keep up with the latest news by following us on instagram! We post regular updates, meet photos and videos highlight an array of athletes. Head over to our page now to catch up!

House Keeping

  • Thank you to the parents who already signed up to help out at the snack bar this season. Those of you who signed up to help at next weeks dual meet versus Westview should expect an email from us this week with details. We still need volunteers for our CIF Prelims snack bar, If you are available for that or any of our upcoming home meets please fill out this form to let us know your availability! We really appreciate your help.

  • Seniors, if you would like to be included in our class of 2023 page on the website, please be sure to fill out the questionnaire so we can get your bio up.

  • REMINDER - athletes should not sign up for the SAT on May 9th as it is the same day as our League Finals Meet.

Donate your used spikes to a Nighthawk in need!

  • If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
