Hello nighthawk families and fans,

On Thursday we had our first home meet against Ramona High School. We had some great performances across the board with many athletes having their first opportunity to compete. We even had a new school record set! Then on Saturday we headed over to Torrey Pines High School for Falcon Relays. Find the full meet results for DNHS vs Ramona here. Athletes of the Meet - Ramona Dual Meet

We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our last meet.

  • Izabella Czyszczon (10) set a new school record in the 100 Hurdles and then broke it again over the weekend at falcon relays with a wind legal time of 15.00!

Sprints -

  • Aden Kaimer (12) 5th overall in the 100m running 11.48, and a blazing 22.46 in the 200m, finishing tied for 1st at the meet, 10th overall in SD, and 3rd all time in Del Norte History.

Alex Walicki (12) after an injury ridden junior year and the beginning of this season, Walicki storms to a full second PR in the 400 and over a full second PR in the 200, running 55.3 and 23.8 respectively.

Ella Joo (11) had a monster day from the 400 runner as she drops down to the 100 and runs 12.74, finishing 1st overall and 26.08 in the 200m, also finishing 1st overall. She moves up to 5th all time in Del Norte history in the 100m, and 4th all time in the 200m.

Maddie Do (9) finished 6th overall in the 100m with a 13.33, also finishing as the fastest freshman of the day. She also anchored the 4x4 closing in with a 63 split.

Throws -

  • Charlie Bowers (12) set a new PR of over a foot in Shot Put and almost 2 feet in discus.

Distance -

  • Lilah Enyedi (11) joined special company yesterday where she shattered the 11 minute barrier in the 3200 running a PR of 10:53. Breaking her old PR by 20 seconds. She’s had a very strong start to her junior year and we’re excited to see how the rest of her season goes.

  • Isaac Bradshaw (11) put on a show in both of his races. He battled in his 800 to secure the win and a 3 second PR lowering his time to 2:03. He then came back to anchor his 4x4 to the win with a 52.5 split. He’s been working extremely hard and his performances show that.

Athletes of the Meet - Falcon Relays

We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our last meet.

Jumps -

  • Hayden Hughes (10) despite a nagging quad injury, still set a PR in triple jump of 35’5”.

Distance -

  • Savannah Harpster (10) had two great performances this weekend. She was able to set a new lifetime best in the 800 of 2:26 which is a four second PR. On top of that she was able to help her team secure a top 5 time in the state in the DMR where she ran a 400 split of 62.7.

Congratulations to all of those athletes on a great meet. We would like to take the time to recognize those athletes whose performance landed them onto our top 10 all-time lists. Because they did not have a wind-gauge at this meet, our sprinters and jumpers performances cannot be counted towards school records and all-time performances. We know they have it in them and will be able to even surpass these marks in future competitions!

Our Next Meet

This week we have another home dual meet against Westview. This will be our first official League meet. In order to earn the team title of League Champions, we must win overall by points at each league meet (or have the best score of all of the teams). It is crucial that athletes are giving their best effort in all events they are competing in and communicating with their coach if anything comes up. More info on this week’s dual meet here.

On Saturday a limited team will compete at Mt Carmel’s Sundevil Invitational, more info here. Weekend invitationals are more competitive/higher level meets for our Varsity level athletes. We enter athletes and they must qualify/be accepted into the meet by the meet director. For this reason we bring a much more limited number of athletes to these meets.

Donate your used spikes to a Nighthawk in need!

  • If your athlete has spikes from last season that aren’t super torn up, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another nighthawk in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
